My Research in Assignment 2

In Assignment 2, I looked at if I should use a laughing track or not. I thought that this needed addressing because it would be a big factor of my film because it pretty much shapes everything. That fact it helps the audience and encourages them to laugh is a big thing and is not to be taken for granted. The only problem without having it is the jokes have to be extra funny so that the film does still make sense without that track. The thing with humour is that you don't want to try too hard otherwise it won't be funny, you have to let it be natural.

I will also shoot my film like a movie, not a TV show. What this means is that there will be many establishing shots of an opening scene. Not like in an average sitcom TV shows, where you would be straight in and you wouldn't be able to do establishing shots because it is filmed on a set. I feel as if the decision I made was on a basis where I watched Gavin & Stacey and the Big Bang Theory because that's what people said I should watch in my survey. This was helpful and I took notes too. I depicted factors like what the shows would look like with and without a crowd. I felt that if you don't have a crowd it brings it down to earth a bit more, and it is made easier to make a movie version of a sitcom without a track/crowd. It makes more sense and brings a better level of comedy to the jokes.

Lastly, I looked at if I should have one main character or three. I discovered that if I have three it could be a bit of a handful with scripting, so I decided to only have one. His name is Kylian and the film focuses on him and his mates, instead of him Riordan and Biddy who are the names of his mates. The problem is that if I have three, I risk the chance of the audience getting confused and not knowing who to root for or to even know who or what the film focusses on or who. I hope that my decision is correct because in most cases having one main character just works. The reason that it felt like a good idea to have three main characters is because I've never seen a film/TVshow that focusses on three main characters. But this is because it is rare and I found out that there is a good reason for this, which is that it is too confusing and it's too much to handle while writing my script.
