1.2 Media Panel

Attitude : In the media panel held at bath college, I found out so much of how and what I need to do to get to the top of my field. In my case, I want to be a director and I am motivated to be so with great passion. So according to the panel, I have the correct attitude. They said: "If you're enthusiastic, you will work your way up". Also, they say "If you stick with it and you learn from your mistakes you can be the next person" This shows me about how my attitude should be and how to approach this industry. I find this helpful because I think that the best way to operate in the industry is to be "enthusiastic" and work my way up to "be the next person". This essentially means that I can be at the top of that field if I have the right attitude. Education: All of the panellists have got degrees and been to university. Not necessarily in Film and Media, however. One of the panellists got into writing and directing even though she had a b...

Work Experience

Why work experience is important? Work Experience is vital going into the business of media. You should be able to find out so much more of what will happen in that particular workplace. The point is to simply know what you are going into for your future and finding whether that is the right job for you. The knowledge you gain from work experience allows you to put that on your C.V and then when you apply for your next job in that industry (especially media) you are more likely to get chosen. My plans for work experience. I do want to work with a film company. Although it will be difficult to get work experience from people like that, I will try and get into the editing of films or just ghosting in general. If I did get into a set of something involving the production process of a film it would help me so much because it is the way that you get into the media industry.  Why does this industry for work experience interest me? This indus...

Women in film

A stat taken by me from ‘Women in Film 2016 thumbs down’ showed that only 27% of writers were women in 2016 and only 24% of women reviewed films. This improved form 2014 where there was only 11.2% of women were writers. This is disappointing. Personally, this stat should be higher. It’s not that men are better than say, directing. Take Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman. This film is now the highest grossing movie of all time. Stats: Only 27% of writers are women 24% reviewers are women So this means that women are: 26% Are critics 41% Staff writers 43% Romance writers for movies 27% Comedy writers 22% Horror writers 23% Action writers 16% Sci-Fi writers 23% Drama writers Men outnumbered women in every job title categorised in writing. In the top 100 grossing films of 2016 Women were: Women are 4% Directors 19% Producers 14% Editors 3% Cinematographers 11% Writers Women account for 52% of moviego...

S.M.A.R.T TARGETS

1. The brief - Take time at the outset to ensure I understand what is required from the brief and ask questions - Make my work of top quality by checking and getting feedback before submission - Do research to help any points I want to make - provide evidence of my research I think this is achievable since the brief is crucial and so I feel like the way I will make it any good will be to work from home, and from there, make my work of top quality but I will do research to help me. I will like to get this done by the deadline of the brief. 2. Ask more questions and contribute in lessons - Ask 2-3 question minimum per lesson - Work hard in focus groups to be very crucial to the contribution of the group - evidence of this will come from feedback - Have original thoughts of my own not borrow others ideas - measurable I will contribute in lessons if I ask more questions from the teacher for help. This will result in me working hard and contributing to a...

Skills development plan

What skill will I develop? For me, I struggle with some of the Adobe software programs because they are so intricate. I try my best and the apps are so useful. Especially if I just want to put one thing on top of the other I can with Photoshop or I want to make a movie, I can use Premiere for example. In fact, the app I am the best at is Adobe Premiere. The app I need to work on, no matter how hard I try is Adobe Photoshop. This is because there is so much to it and I still have a lot to learn. I never knew I could make a stop motion movie inside there. Things like this inspire me to know more about it. It is as if you can do absolutely anything to your photo but for me knowing how and finding it is the problem. My goal Find 7 more new tools in Photoshop. Am I enthusiastic enough? I am definitely eager to learn more about it every time I open the app. I can still do a lot on there to be fair because that is shown in every new piece of work I make. My weakness is that I...

How do I make my magazine cover pop? Source: LinkedIn Learning Link: https://www.slideshare.net/mrcaptainpanda/magazine-cover-analysis-17728028 What this told me was, how to make my magazine cover pop. It tells me what I need to do in order to create an excitng atmosphere, and a closer understanding for the audience of what my magazine is actually about. Not only that but how to show what is important for my character on the front cover and how to capitalise them. I realise d a lo t more via secondary research about the magazine I bought in my primary research. I now found the face on the front (Harry Potter) is serious and that created an intense atmosphere, especially for a heroic character and that draws the auidence in to want to watch the film to find out what happens to their hero. I think that the way this magazine portrays a daring image of Harry Potter imposes an a different view for Harry Potter. It shows home being serious and that could scare the ...

Primary research

Image
I have found 3 magazines at 3 different prices to find out what the average price is: £4.75+£3.99+£3.90=£12.64. £12.64 divided by 3 is £4.21 so the average price for the magazines that I found was £4.21. The reason I used this technique to determine whether it was the average was that it is the correct mathematical way to find a way of calculating an average and I thought it would be helpful to know the average since it would be primary research. The reason that this is primary research is that I went and individually picked out these magazines and did the maths myself meaning, that I alone have collected this and calculated the average which hasn't been done before. This means that since I did this myself and worked it out you could say that this is Quantitive data because of the fact I'm using numbers. But I'm using the magazines I found as well, not just numbers on their own so that I am doing collecting something myself and no off of anyone else. If I did, t...

Primary and Secondary Research

Summary of definition for research Primary Research is when you collect data. Secondary Research is data that already exists. Quantitive Research is hard data, numbers and stats. Qualitative Research is opinions, feelings and soft data. The benefits of all research The benefits of research are to find out information using either primary, secondary, quantitive or qualitative research techniques. Usually, it doesn't matter what kind of research technique you use as long as you actually find out information. The most common technique is secondary research because it is the easiest way to find out information, without having to do all the required things that you have to do the primary research. Best research techniques There isn't a best technique, but the one that people appreciate the most is primary research. Simply because it is fresh and new information. This would cause a chain reaction of secondary research. This would motivate people into making new re...
