1.2 Media Panel
Attitude:
In the media panel held at bath college, I found out so much of how and what I need to do to get to the top of my field. In my case, I want to be a director and I am motivated to be so with great passion. So according to the panel, I have the correct attitude. They said: "If you're enthusiastic, you will work your way up". Also, they say "If you stick with it and you learn from your mistakes you can be the next person" This shows me about how my attitude should be and how to approach this industry. I find this helpful because I think that the best way to operate in the industry is to be "enthusiastic" and work my way up to "be the next person". This essentially means that I can be at the top of that field if I have the right attitude.
Education:
All of the panellists have got degrees and been to university. Not necessarily in Film and Media, however. One of the panellists got into writing and directing even though she had a business studies degree. "However many degrees you've got, it absolutely doesn't matter you go (in our industry at least) " and that "runner is the best job". Also "people have got their media degrees but haven't got anywhere because you have your degree and you think, I'm amazing and they thought the jobs at the bottom were beneath them". This shows that even though you have your degree everyone goes through the same path.
Path:
The path you have to take is "work experience as a runner". This is because the runner is someone who sees the editorial side as well as the production side which is perfect for any up and coming directors. The way one of them did it was making cups of tea and photocopying but over time they became indispensable and gave her more responsibility. Any problems and you come with solutions, you say 'I've thought about (X, Y, Z)' and say I've thought about this. She was doing nothing for the first 3 months but she was absolutely necessary to the set of that film, and those films.
