Concept Art

Image
For concept art, I wanted to go retro and bring in something that would be suitable for my film in simplicity and style. I knew that colour was the main problem since I didn't know if I could make the car pop enough. I chose orange since it is the same secondary colour as the car and I know that orange and blue work well together. The other posters correlate to an opposite colour to the car but I chose differently and kept to just the one colour scheme (orange and blue) I didn't want to overcomplicate this and choose a bad colour for it but if I had to if chose green since that is classic lotus colours. It would be more of the Goldfinger green as that stays true to the origin. I love the simplicity as said before because it is so cool and it is definitely something I'd have on my bedroom wall which is what all movie posters are supposed to do and what they are for. There were a lot of bubbles to represent sun reflection on the original but I edited them out to keep true t...

Experimentation

Image
I created a concept art poster to experiment with the idea I have. I wanted to implicate the Ca'7'erham so that the audience it had the original Lotus logo and the new Caterham one. I felt this was necessary as it is a hint to what the film is about and what will be said in it. A look at how it is both a Caterham and Lotus '7'. It shares it just as their history does. I also have the main car of all, the car that beat the likes of a Bugatti Veyron around the Top Gear test track and therefore is looked upon as a historic car. I will hopefully see this car in the flesh in my Documentary and so it will play a part in my film and poster The reason for 'More Than A Car' is because it is and in this poster that fact is quite literally elevated as I made it 3D. To the community of Caterham car owners, there are a lot of people that back the cars al the way through, from the karting to the academy and then to them owning one themselves. It is some peoples'...

Research Reflection

Image
In my research, I set out to find a particular way in which to make my film whether that was shot types, styles and general inspiration and learning to best prepare me for what is to come next in my project. I wanted to also learn about the equipment that I'll be using and making sure that I was prepared and know about how to use it and what to do with it in the style of my film. I knew I needed to find Caterham stats for my film for things to say about them in my film. I also needed to contact Caterham to make sure that filming on their April 2nd open Day was allowed and this was the response I got from them: This showed me that it was okay and that I would be able to film at the event so I wanted to try my luck in whether I could get an interview and get up close with the cars at the event for footage in my film to elevate the history and evolution scenes. Not only will this be great and talked about in my voice overs but it will prove that my project hasn't ...

Tick box method

Image
To complete Assignment 3, 1, I created a tick box style plan on paper and I made a few of them because of course, I need to plan for what I plan to ask in interviews and vox pops for people. I find that this will be as a result of me needing to remember what to ask and why to ask it. I will hopefully be interviewing someone who works at Caterham but that is still in talks at this stage so I have to focus on questions to ask the public. I feel this method is effective since it has proven to me before in the many times I have used it. It is like a form of a revision to me so, at the end of the shooting day, I will be fluent in the questions. Not many people are experienced or comfortable with a camera in front of them so having a well-organised image to them will help their confidence and hopefully allow them to think and speak more freely resulting in a better film for me. I the main thing I also want to focus on is getting the image/picture right and the audio right to me and my one ...

Case Study

The Grand Tour: The 1982 Rally Rivalry Gavin Whitehead - IMDb Gavin Whitehead, who directed this episode used a highly tinted filter. The voice overs in this episode are something that I will do and the style of it as well is just like what I have in mind. I believe that if I were to use this style including the voice-overs then I would need to record my footage and do the voice-overs after. This would enable me to be able to talk about what was in front of me as a pose to what's on a piece of paper when the footage is all recorded and I'm commentating. I will put a filter on my film especially because it makes the colours pop and allows you to see more detail since it is highlighted. I think that making the saturation higher will help so that if I am shooting in the countryside then you can see the greenery as well as the colours on the car. Gavin has also worked on Top Gear but he followed suit when the hosts of Top Gear turned to Amazon Video for The Grand Tour. In wh...

Practical Skills

I will experiment with using my drone and practising flying techniques such as pano shots and follow shots to prepare for shooting. I will use a reflector when filming so what I will need to do is find ways to use it. I haven't used one before so this will be a great learning experience for me so, I need to learn how to use it properly by searching on the internet. Another thing that I need to learn how to use is audio. Getting the audio right for this project especially is crucial. The noises of the car/cars and obviously me talking while doing the stand-up and voice-overs are going to need to be good obviously. I already have experience with using a dead cat and making foley as well. For me, in this project, it won't be foley so much as a real sound that needs to be captured at that moment. Reflector Tutorial Using A Reflector In this video, I learned that I need to use the sun to bounce light off of the reflector. It is typically used outside and when you are film...

Primary Research / Findings / Qualitative Data

Speaking to Caterham I spoke with Caterham over a potential interview for my film at the April 2nd Event and if it was even possible to film at the event. I was hoping to make this happen because an interview with someone high up would definitely boost my film. What I said was I asked if I was able to film there and they took my contact details and told me that the marketing team would get in touch. While waiting for them to get in touch, I was urgently wanting to know if I could speak or have an interview with anyone. I have made contact with Caterham several times to speak to the marketing team and they haven't provided me much information until now. I really want to film at this event and I was told it shouldn.t be a problem by the person I spoke to on the phone who was on the line for the 'Caterham Cars Ltd' number on their website and this is a great opportunity for my film since getting as much footage as I can for my 25-30 minute film is the main objective.
