Research Reflection

Image
In my research, I set out to find a particular way in which to make my film whether that was shot types, styles and general inspiration and learning to best prepare me for what is to come next in my project. I wanted to also learn about the equipment that I'll be using and making sure that I was prepared and know about how to use it and what to do with it in the style of my film. I knew I needed to find Caterham stats for my film for things to say about them in my film. I also needed to contact Caterham to make sure that filming on their April 2nd open Day was allowed and this was the response I got from them: This showed me that it was okay and that I would be able to film at the event so I wanted to try my luck in whether I could get an interview and get up close with the cars at the event for footage in my film to elevate the history and evolution scenes. Not only will this be great and talked about in my voice overs but it will prove that my project hasn't

Tick box method

Image
To complete Assignment 3, 1, I created a tick box style plan on paper and I made a few of them because of course, I need to plan for what I plan to ask in interviews and vox pops for people. I find that this will be as a result of me needing to remember what to ask and why to ask it. I will hopefully be interviewing someone who works at Caterham but that is still in talks at this stage so I have to focus on questions to ask the public. I feel this method is effective since it has proven to me before in the many times I have used it. It is like a form of a revision to me so, at the end of the shooting day, I will be fluent in the questions. Not many people are experienced or comfortable with a camera in front of them so having a well-organised image to them will help their confidence and hopefully allow them to think and speak more freely resulting in a better film for me. I the main thing I also want to focus on is getting the image/picture right and the audio right to me and my one

Case Study

Image
The Grand Tour: The 1982 Rally Rivalry Gavin Whitehead - IMDb Gavin Whitehead, who directed this episode used a highly tinted filter. The voice overs in this episode are something that I will do and the style of it as well is just like what I have in mind. I believe that if I were to use this style including the voice-overs then I would need to record my footage and do the voice-overs after. This would enable me to be able to talk about what was in front of me as a pose to what's on a piece of paper when the footage is all recorded and I'm commentating. I will put a filter on my film especially because it makes the colours pop and allows you to see more detail since it is highlighted. I think that making the saturation higher will help so that if I am shooting in the countryside then you can see the greenery as well as the colours on the car. Gavin has also worked on Top Gear but he followed suit when the hosts of Top Gear turned to Amazon Video for The Grand Tour. In wh

Practical Skills

I will experiment with using my drone and practising flying techniques such as pano shots and follow shots to prepare for shooting. I will use a reflector when filming so what I will need to do is find ways to use it. I haven't used one before so this will be a great learning experience for me so, I need to learn how to use it properly by searching on the internet. Another thing that I need to learn how to use is audio. Getting the audio right for this project especially is crucial. The noises of the car/cars and obviously me talking while doing the stand-up and voice-overs are going to need to be good obviously. I already have experience with using a dead cat and making foley as well. For me, in this project, it won't be foley so much as a real sound that needs to be captured at that moment. Reflector Tutorial Using A Reflector In this video, I learned that I need to use the sun to bounce light off of the reflector. It is typically used outside and when you are film

Primary Research / Findings / Qualitative Data

Image
Speaking to Caterham I spoke with Caterham over a potential interview for my film at the April 2nd Event and if it was even possible to film at the event. I was hoping to make this happen because an interview with someone high up would definitely boost my film. What I said was I asked if I was able to film there and they took my contact details and told me that the marketing team would get in touch. While waiting for them to get in touch, I was urgently wanting to know if I could speak or have an interview with anyone. I have made contact with Caterham several times to speak to the marketing team and they haven't provided me much information until now. I really want to film at this event and I was told it shouldn.t be a problem by the person I spoke to on the phone who was on the line for the 'Caterham Cars Ltd' number on their website and this is a great opportunity for my film since getting as much footage as I can for my 25-30 minute film is the main objective. Wor

Types of FMP research

In my FMP I will conduct 4 types of research. Primary, Secondary, Quantitative and Qualitative. For my Secondary research, I will watch Top Gear and The Grand Tour and visualise my project in a way that will allow me to see how my project will look since my inspiration  is  these two programmes. I will also do a case study on a director that worked on both. I will find Caterham information & statistics and reflect on them to enable me to prepare myself for the up and coming Documentary. If I already have these or at least some stats lined up then I will be will be prepared moving into the pre-production part of this project.  I will also find some people to interview in a focus group for Primary Research, this will also include me reading  lowflying  magazine to find more information. I will conduct a survey to determine my target audience which is Primary Research and find the opinions of what people expect and what people like about the type of film I am going to make. This

Secondary Research / Quantitative Data

Image
For my research I have decided to look up statistics I can use for future purposes and things I can use for my film. I think that some if not most of these facts will be used in the voice-over and stand-up part in my Documentary. I will explore Lowflying, a magazine dedicated to Caterham owners and enthusiasts which will hopefully give me more information on up and coming events for me to film at. I want to be able to use this as another way to show the audience in my Documentary that it is more than just a car it is some peoples job to be an enthusiast and to write a magazine on Caterham's. COLLEGE REVIEW

In my second year of being at Bath college studying Media, I have had so much fun and learnt so much. I am grateful to the college for allowing me to come onto Level 3 and I have devoted myself for the whole two years that I have been here. I hope to have repaid the debt I owe to them for allowing me to progress to Level 3.  I have tried my hardest in all subjects and even in what I thought was my weakest subject (Contextual Studies) I passed the first time. Maths has been great, I passed my practice paper and I have enjoyed my lessons. I also passed my functional skills Maths last year. I am very eager to advance to Level 3, Year 2, as I will choose the 'Moving Image' path and it will be fantastic for my education and my hopes of going to University. I am sure that I will find it very informative and useful. My future job will be a Film Director as I am going to be persistent and passionate enough to achieve this life goal for a job. College is a big part and I will co

PITCH FEEDBACK

Opinion from pitch My pitch was great! I know that I must be more vigilant and thoroughly plan my project out, and I will up my game to aim for the Distinction grade. I know it went well because I knew my point was getting across. The point of this film is the fact that the 'Caterham' is an under-rated underdog supercar that people have overlooked. Or just simply that people don't know about it. So I will teach them not just about the car but the community and the whole prospectus. I knew this was getting across since my presentation was explaining it. Ed told me that my presentation was good so I could tell he knew what I wanted to do. I told him about the community and it says in my presentation that it exists. I hadn't told him statistics yet since I am saving that for my film. I wish that I could have done a whole presentation with a projector and standing up I feel that it would have run smoother instead of me sitting down and talking about it. If I am ever to

CHANGING PERSPECTIVE

Image
At first, I experimented with looking at different perspectives. I went to 'Pinterest' and looked at a few images to find that was interesting enough to entertain a small circle and I found some buildings in New York that did that. I wanted to try out seeing the different perspective since it could help me get an insight into what it's like to only see half the picture but still make it look good. In this photo, I wanted to capture part of the car that is iconic enough to let you recognise it. In this photo, you see so much detail in such a small photo. Even though the picture is so small, I learnt a nice angle to film the car from in the future if I go through with this project. Even the suspension looks great in this picture because of the detail you see. It looks complex because of the engineering that is connecting the car and open wheels. It opens the car up and allows you to see an inside of it that you don't see in most cars because cars usually are

MOODBOARD

Image
DOCUMENTARY I have created a mood board that represents the shots I want to get and the type of thing I will be going for when I am talking about the history of these cars and all the things I want to talk about. If you could imagine a voice over in the single shots of the car then you will imagine a scene of my Documentary and you will understand the type of shot and design for the film I want. All of these are alike to 'Top Gear' and 'The Grand Tour'. The same goes for the image of the men standing around the car and talking about it, I will definitely be doing this, but it will be shot near the end of my shooting days because I will know the most about the project so far at that stage so I will know about any other additional things that need to be talked about. I will tell people and educate them on things like this in this mood board where the Tesla has only 305bhp per tonne and the Caterham has 566bhp per tonne. As you can tell by the numbers, the Caterha
