Recce
Doing my recce, I went on google maps to plan my shots and plan the angles that I will use in my film. I mapped it out on paper first, so that I could go in prepared and know what I'd be doing on location since it would be sunny and I will know what will happen on location. I think that it's always great to plan these kinds of things since I love to be organised. I always try to stay ahead and make my trip as easy as possible since I will have a lot to do on that day. It's key for me to know this since it isn't easy to know exactly what's going to happen because of obviously traffic and road obstructions so I took a picture of the car park to find a quiet spot. The sheet, however, is crucial because it tells me where I'll be shooting, not only that but where the camera angle is so I can go straight in on location and get it done with no hassle.
I marked out 3 locations, one being Priddy forest, where I will use the drone and get a follow shot of the car and there is a lot of open air and a field. The problem is the airspace, I won't know until I'm there or not if the airspace is restricted, this could be a problem. Drone Code is where I have found that it is safe to fly under certain regulations so I'll take that as anywhere unless, on the drone, it comes up and says it's restricted under the app. I hope to make the day when the weather is nice like how it was on my recce. This will be good for the car since the tyres will be hot so that means the handling will be easier making it an easy day for the driver. I will get some low angles as well as high ones to express the scenery and the speed of the car from the two best angles to show it. The high angle will be with the drone and the low angle with a small stand or a slider for the highest/lowest possible angles. I hope to make them moving shots because of this as well as that will add cinematic effect as this is for the showboating part of the film which I want to be the most cinematic.
I hope to make this a safe as possible, so risk assessment-wise, there is a busy road next to a car park which will mean that lots of people will be either going quickly or turning in which will mean that a high visibility jacket will have to be worn at all times and the actions that I take will have to be obvious to whoever as they will need to see the camera as well. I love the fact that there is a lot of trees as the will form a background to the road from looking over the field. It's a fantastic way to focus on the car as well by looking at the road in front of the scenery. On google maps, I found out the angle of the road meaning, that there could possibly be the potential for a low angle shot as the car and the road swoops around the camera.
In Cheddar Gorge, I have mapped out two corners I want to film at. I have taken photos of each of them. The image from google maps with the view of the road joins to the other photos like the other two view but the darker one is the one that joins not the lighter one because that is in a different place. To clarify, the darker image is joint with the google maps road view. Then the lighter one is in a different corner but all of these are on the bird's eye view google maps photo. I will (as said on the sheet) use the drone in Cheddar and I plan to fly it through the curves of the gorge and follow the Caterham through. This will have to be thought through carefully, however, depending on how windy it is on that day. It's really difficult to fly the drone in the wind as you will never be able to get good footage as it will be shaky and generally all over the place. Keeping the attention on the car will not be my only objective as it's a very beautiful place so I will need to take some shots of the scenery and the car. Mixing these two will be fun as the shot I have planned is very aesthetically pleasing. I also want to get low use the slider for even more cinematic effect.
I will visit Cheddar twice since I will need to come back for the car meet and do some filming of all the cars in a row going through the gorge. That is another big community part that I will use. This is also set on being cinematic as it ties into the final review. I will definitely make this a fun part of the film. It will look great going in a pack on a 'blat'. It will show the reason for going to a meet and how fantastic it is to all be together. I plan to use my drone as well, as this will be another chance to show off the car and the scenery. I feel like this point needs to be expressed and there is no other way to do that than going on a blat and filming it.

On this road, it is the safest road for the shot I have planned, I plan to be out the back of a car shooting the Caterham on the road. The reason that this is safe is that I am a local to this road. I know for a fact that between 14:00 - 15:00 it is quiet which means that it is unlikely for any obstructions to happen to the car. Also, the reason I chose this road is it's easy to film the car as it will be going straight and since it's quiet, it will be able to overtake within the shot view. I want to get audio on this as well as it will be great for the film. I'll be able to also set up ready for this location before I go meaning all I have to do when I get there is turn the camera and audio on, then open the boot and fold down the rear seat that eventually I'll lean out of and access the camera in the boot, in about 1 minute. This allows me to get this done safely and quickly at no expense. I will be doing this stunt for the sake of the film of which I know it will work the only concern isn't me falling out, it's the equipment falling out or anything happening to that. Also, the other worry is the shaky camera on the road. It isn't a particularly bumpy road, I've checked that but the motion of the car is what could make this a make or break. I hope 'make' of course I will just have to pin it down and be steady while travelling at a low speed. It won't look that great non-edited but after speeding it up it will look faster and more professional, after all, that is the aim of the game. In the best interest of getting a steady shot, I will hold it down and do reruns if not good enough. This will ensure my satisfaction that it's good enough, audio also, this will be affected if I'm busy doing something else. Yes, it's a risk being outside the back of a car, but I'm willing to take it for the quality of shot I will be getting for my film. I want to aim for those shots in Top Gear of the car on the road looking really good while going fast and eventually overtaking.
