CONTEXT - FMP

I have reviewed many documentaries amongst other short college made films and I feel like the 'Moving Image' path and a documentary is what I will do. I worked on an FMP documentary last year (Level 2) which earned a distinction for the particular student. I did a short film and that was successful. I have been Inspired to do one of these documentaries for w while and I will take this chance to show off my skill in making one. I have experience with vox pops and editing documentaries from helping others but I never got around to actually doing one.

I have watched many and in particular, 'Top Gear', 'The Grand Tour' and the one I worked on, 'My Experience Being A Gashead' on YouTube. I know the type of thing I am aiming for and I will look to create one long review and documentary. The thing I want to express is, how much of a fanbase it's got and how it's one of the fastest cars in the world that has slipped under the radar. I want to shed a light on this and this is how I am going to do it:

Top gear use moving shots with a voice behind it and I plan to do something similar. I will talk about the Caterham Academy, Formula One, Lowflying Magazine, Statistics and much more to let the audience know all about the hidden supercar. The price isn't bad either for a supercar depending on the one you get so this is where I shall bring in statistics such as how it goes from 0-60mph in 2.9 Seconds and how it is faster than a Bugatti Veyron around the Nurburgring where the Caterham did 7 minutes and 55 seconds. 

Cars are a topic I know about and something I am also passionate about. I originally planned to do a film about Karting and the atmosphere it has but I have since changed my mind due to my schedule changes for the up and coming year.


CONCLUSION

Having gone through much thought, I feel confident in this new project. I hope I accomplish my mission of educating people on Caterhams and the passion toward them. Embarking on this journey in this project will be fun for me since this is definitely something I have been planning to do. The documentary 'My Experience Being A Gashead' will be as much of an inspiration as 'Top Gear' and 'The Grand Tour's reviews on cars in that particular part of their show. The reason for this inspiration is that I know it is achievable to earn a Distinction through this idea since it had been proven to me from the 'Gashead' documentary.

One of the issues about doing this project will be the timing of when I go out and film such things because I will go to car meets and getting people together and filming people who are not actors. Shooting this is what I mean, in as much as, I will need people to be willing to compromise and I will control the whole operation. As a young, Director this will be a challenge for me but I am passionate and optimistic.

Opinion from pitch My pitch was great! I know that I must be more vigilant and thoroughly plan my project out, and I will up my game to aim for the Distinction grade. I know it went well because I knew my point was getting across. The point of this film is the fact that the 'Caterham' is an under-rated underdog supercar that people have overlooked. Or just simply that people don't know about it. So I will teach them not just about the car but the community and the whole prospectus. I knew this was getting across since my presentation was explaining it. Ed told me that my presentation was good so I could tell he knew what I wanted to do. 60 Seconds

I liked making this film but at the start, I was aiming for a comedy and I guess it is a bit of both.  From target 3.1 I learned new and interesting shot types such as, a low angle looking up and the high angle looking down which are great to use because they show how a character is feeling. For example, the low angle looking up can show that a character is feeling intimidated and a high angle looking down is the person providing the argument. I learned this through watching 'A few good men" in the "You can't handle the truth" scene.  In my film, I use the low angle facing up to the girl so the guy in the chair was feeling intimidated. For the product assessment, I have asked 4 people to write a short paragraph stating what was good and bad about my film and what I could change. I did this not only because the brief requires it but out of personal interest to see what people made of my film. I was very intrigued by what they thought of it and not for them to just say 'good' but go into detail and perhaps pick my film apart. This method has definitely proven worthy in the past as I have had much feedback on previous short films explaining not only what was wrong but why it was wrong which helped me learn a great deal about me as a director and learn a lot more about my film. I have learned many valuable lessons such as; 'Always keep your target audience in mind' and 'keep the camera work as smooth as possible if it's a crucial scene.'
