Rice paper short - Tobie Movie
The final edit: https://youtu.be/0X2wllhYLHI
In this lesson we were assigned to edit a bunch of clips of a woman working in Cambodia. This woman was making rice paper, and although it was fun to edit the actual thin it was also quite interesting to watch. The way that the woman was making it was with such delicacy and care.
I added funny pimp music to give it a humorous side, since this may not be the most entertaining thing to watch. I feel that the film or any film is made better and more interesting with the choice of music.
It was crucial to get the order of the shots right because you needed to link it up, so that all the movements were in time. It needed to include the 5 shot method that we were taught to at the start of the lesson. This included the order of which the Close ups, Wide shots, over shoulder shots and unusual alternative shots were placed.
The shots that we had were used to understand all of the different points of the rice making. So that you could get a good idea of how they filmed it and how the woman made it.
Whether they intended to do this or not I don't know, but they actually showed that the work they were doing was very hard and deliberately delicate. If they weren't delicate they don't get paid. So this was their life. So, this became a very reflective video as much as and entertaining one.
I need to include this in my Caller Unknown film. This is crucial for the audience to see. The shots can be dependant on whether the audience understand the film or not. Some shot explain certain things. For example you don't want a close up of someone falling over because the audience will just see a load of weird moving clothes. They wont see any of the climactic action.
