Narrative Theory in Contextual Film Studies

The Hero's Journey

In the hero's journey, we learn about the different stages a hero goes through in a movie.
The specific stages are;

ACT 1
- Introduction to characters
- Call to action
- Crossing threshold

ACT 2
- Mentor teaches to lead
- First challenge
- Temptation
- Dark moment

ACT 3
- Final Conflict
- Return home

All of these are true because they are proven that they re-occur in any and every movie. For example with Batman, Bruce Wayne's parents are murdered in an alley, and then he grows up and has a vengeance towards the killer. He then becomes Batman from a crossing threshold which is training to become the hero, Batman. After this, he is taught to lead by a mentor that is Alfred (his butler). Then he faces his first challenge against a villain and has a temptation to stop doing what he is doing before his dark moment of sorrow where he could have realised that he has become a vigilante. Then the final conflict against the main villain before eventually returning home.
