Final design

Image
This is my final Christmas card design that I did myself. I got images of the lion(ess), cub, nativity picture and wood burner from the internet but they were all bright and original. that's until I come along with all of that editing. I did 97% of the work here. The whole light of God is all me using the burn and dodge tool in photoshop. Also as I promised a font that would be jazzy. I also have a font here that is kind of wacky and so takes the mic a bit of the serious picture. I love my final design and the inner of my card is as so:

Animation Reviews - Steve

Glass and water This mini - animation is about a glass who is being watched in the dish washer and then he deliberately steps out of the way so that he doesn't get fully washed with water. This was a very strange film since all you hear is the other glasses singing and then the other foley noises added. I feel as if this was strange because there wasn't much point to it. The fact it had no talking made it difficult to understand what the point was and so therefore lacked to communicate to the audience. Yes the animation was good but the plot was poor. I did like the way the water was painted and this was all drawn. That takes a certain skill. But again, I didn't really get the gist of that. 1936 colour classic This was a nice little animation that was made in 1936 and that was a very good demonstration of how to make an animation. The best thing about that was the fact it had the fact that some of that was 3D. In those time they didn't have computers so the firs

It has impacted my passion for sport, fitness and activities massively. This effect many types of aspects about me invluding physical appearance. I find that this will be more than suitable to include in my story

This is a little idea for the christmas card I want to make. This isn't on the brief but I felt I needed to get an understanding for the design I will do.

Focus Group

This is my focus group: This is my focus group, we debated how we liked christmas cards and what we want on them. This is useful information for designing a card. Since we are designing one this is useful to the process. I found that everyone liked the abnormal. We have a taste not for the original and traditional colours, but for the more brighter and more of a experimentation approach colours. I think that the best way to make a christmas card is to base it on your target audience. young children want icons in their favourite colours and then for teens up to 18, they will want to have more basic colours with a simple message. then adults up to 65 would accept a more complex design and better art that's humorous. And finally the older people will want the traditional stuff. Standard white, green and red. we also found that there is a wide range of us that have maturity in our preferred style, for example, some of us like bright pink sparkly things as some of us prefer

Market Research - Jo

Image
85% of christmas cards are bought by women and that means only 15% are bought by men. I will make something that appeals to women In the 19th century, the Post Office delivered cards on christmas day in the UK. Postmen were often known as robins because of their bright their bright red uniforms and robins became a popular christmas card motif. Therefore I will include an animal factor to try and link religion and the animals.  This card is of a couple of penguins that are obviously in love or something like that, and I think that because of the font, the design and the maturity of this that you'd send this to one one your parents or both. The font is nice an its quite jazzy. Probably something like what I want to use. Complex but simple meaning legible. The 'Special Couple' bit I mean. I love the design art of the penguins it give the card maturity to the card. It has a lot of pizzaz of which I'm going to need for my card with this market research. It also doesn

The black dot

In this short movie, we see a man bored, i'm quite surprised to see how greed took over but if you think about it, there is always one part of everyone that would allow greed to take over when you have power. The Equilibrium in this short, is a normal boring day at the office. Then the interruption is the black hole he printed off and it turns into greed

Steve questions

question 2 Not that I know of. 3&5 Yes, there was a spider in the corner of my room just above my feet in front of my bed. I woke up that morning and because of being scared of spiders AT THAT TIME I screamed so that everyone woke up. My little brother was definitely woken up by this so he pegged it to my room and then jumped upon my bed, hugged me and said "don't worry bro, I got you!" and if it wasn't for this is would have probably never gotten along with my little brother. But because of my ex-phobia of spiders I am now very close to him. 4 If I could change anything about myself it would be my phobia of watching people eat with their mouth open. I call this 'chamming'. Simply because any one who knows me knows this. I hate it when people do that. When people eat with their mouth open it really agitates me and i hate it to the core. One time at Christmas dinner, my little brother did it so i held his mouth throughout the whole of the 2 hour dura

Pyramid scheme

3 companies that use pyramid schemes: Herbalife Amway Mary Kay  These are all companies who's net worth are in the billions All these companies use something called pyramid schemes. This means that they recruit members and via a promise of payments or services for enrolling others into the scheme, rather than supplying investments or sale of products or services. As recruiting becomes quickly impossible, and most members are unable to profit; as such, pyramid schemes are unsuitable and often illegal.

3 act structure

The 3 act structure is a way of describing the plot and structure of the movie. The whole point of a movie is how the character gets to become the hero or the person who is the winner or things as uplifting as that. This rule is a description break-down of the secrets behind making a film. I personally like the idea that in any super hero movie there is an uplifting moment of which the hero is then given an idea or a plan to take down the villain that then adds suspense to the movie. This is then the climax. The part of the movie where the main character is then the subject of the ending. This is then the best part of the movie. The big battle of which you've waited the whole movie for. This always occurs because the movie has been stirring up the whole time. Act 1 in the movie : Transformers  Sam witwicky finds bumblebee and they become friends because sam discovers that bumblebee is a good guy Act 2:  He is introduced to the other good robots (Autobots) and he learns of the

Insides of Caller Unknown

Synopsis: The moral of my story in this film is, all about how you can misjudge people. There is a kid hacker who has spent his whole life attempting to get into government files. He feels victorious but there are consequences to hacking into government files. He is working when suddenly he is being called repeatedly. There is an Assassin after him. The Assassin is telling him where to go on the phone but 'I' the main character is spooked by this and he doesn't want anything to do with it but he has been left no choice but to go alone because his friend wouldn't go with him. The Assassin is then aggressive but eases his approach to him by waiting to strike. He interrogates the main character into fright but 'I' remains cocky. The two are coming to an agreement when they go to 'I's room at home for the files. 'I' gives up the files and then the Assassin asks if he wants to come with him to hell which probably means he is going to jail or an

Transformers synopsis

Transformers is a cgi based film that was influence by the 80's TV series Transformers. This version is now referred to as G1. The main story is actually about a boy called Sam Witwicky and he is the main human character who earns a new car and he picks this 1977 Camero of which just so happens to be this transformer called Bumblebee. Then he is chased  by this transformer in the middle of the night and then he becomes friend with him after he figures out that he is a good guy. The point of this movie is that there is are other robots not bumblebee's autobot team mates that are looking to destroy the earth. Tragic right? So obviously the friends of Bumblebee who are called the Autobots with their leader Optimus Prime are friends with 2 humans. These other robots who are bad guys called Deceptions and their leader is called Megatron and he is the brother of Optimus and only one can survive for the good of mankind.

The rule of thirds

The rule of thirds is applied by aligning a subject with the guide lines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section.

Rice paper short - Tobie Movie

The final edit: https://youtu.be/0X2wllhYLHI In this lesson we were assigned to edit a bunch of clips of a woman working in Cambodia. This woman was making rice paper, and although it was fun to edit the actual thin it was also quite interesting to watch. The way that the woman was making it was with such delicacy and care. I added funny pimp music to give it a humorous side, since this may not be the most entertaining thing to watch. I feel that the film or any film is made better and more interesting with the choice of music. It was crucial to get the order of the shots right because you needed to link it up, so that all the movements were in time. It needed to include the 5 shot method that we were taught to at the start of the lesson. This included the order of which the Close ups, Wide shots, over shoulder shots and unusual alternative shots were placed. The shots that we had were used to understand all of the different points of the rice making. So that you could get a

Christmas Card - Kuler

Image
That is the colours that I intend to use on my christmas card. I think that the Ice column is the nicest line because the blue would be appropriate for a lot of the snow and the sky perhaps. The fact that the colour is cold is quite ironic considering that christmas is in the winter and generally a cold time.  I like the colour called Santa Red since it is self-explained since this is the colour I will use on his suit and the darker colours could be the colour of perhaps the presents. I used the bright colours in the Christmas tree green so that I could get the alternative darker green. I really like that the first colour is warm and that it is perfect for the christmas tree. I intend to spend more time finding colours for the decorations on the tree and the presents. I will be using the white for my final design a with hint of that darkest red. Also the wallpaper will include the light green. So I will include all of these colours but just not in the order most would think.

Rise of the web comic

Image
Web comics are becoming more and more popular. They are very good at painting a picture of a perfect world that gives people hope. This can be an important factor the the lives of some people. A lot of people nowadays are inspired by the fantasy world and so take inspiration and make their own. The video that the class was shown, describes and backs up every thing I said in the first paragraph. It is essential that the crowd (readers) get the same feel for comics as the author otherwise it could come across in the wrong way.

Video noises (foley) - Moving image

First off, here is my final products: Assassins Creed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gBrXTLPrZs Library To start off with Assassins Creed, the sound at the start was a snapping chain worked and sounded really effective with the way he cuts the rope. But I thought that this sound in particular was a much nicer and crisper sound. I think that the screaming sound could have been better but it adds a bit of comedy to it as much as it is really because, this woman had just seen someone be killed out of no where. Just like when the Assassin pushes the guard off the boat and into the water, with a funny scream and a tiny splash. The noise that I liked the most was the snapping of the chain, as described at the start. I felt that this as a really effective noise and that it describes the noise and the movement very well. As for the Library, it was tricky because the sounds were actually us doing it. So we had to adjust the volume on the microphone audio recorder to get the perfect so

Winter animation - The Lost Elf

In my winter animation, my partner Alex and I used drawing at first because we knew it wold be effective. We like the fact that there can be a moving picture and even though this has taken a long time to do, we feel like it is time well spent on a project that we can't wait to see how it finishes. The drawing is fun because we sketched through A3 paper to get the same shapes of the images each time. That was the hard part, but now we are going to use plasticine for the Christmas present. We haven't yet got onto the plasticine yet, because using the paper drawings has taken a long time and so we are close to it. Our animation is going to be called the lost Elf because he is trapped in a box, and finds his way out. This is supposed to send a message to people that no matter how deep and bad your life is at the moment, there is always a way out. And this is supposed to inspire people to be confident in life.

Steve Animation - The Whale & The Fat Cat

The Whale is a drawn animation with separate moving parts. The whole aspect of the mini animation is that a fisherman is out looking for this whale where really it was right underneath him. Perhaps this was the morale of the story. Somethings are actually easier to do than you think. Personally, that is what I think. But other could say that it is about the actual animation and how long it took to make but there is always a message hidden within, or at least it is easy to do in animation because you are actually making it. I like the drawings because they are intricate and very precise. In this next animation, there is a Fat Cat,  and it is about a greedy cat. He eats every rat in the city and he gets VERY big. The cat is huge in the end he is bigger than most buildings. The animation is very good. The drawings are just as good as the whale.

Steve Animation - iDent

In the movie iDent we see a plasticine animation of this main character that has problems with his appearance. Everyday he tries to change it but he never fixes it. So first of, he goes to work and sees his mate and he put this mask on to his face so he can mask his appearance. Then his mate gets rid of the mask, and probably says that he doesn't need it. So, he puts it on himself and it looks silly. It is clear by this point having shouted at his dog and he is having a bad day. This morale of this story is that he doesn't know that he is in a maze and that everything is not as it seems.

Steve Animation - Darkness light darkness

Image
In the animation I had watched with Steve, there was a man being assembled by plasticine and the mini-movie was very fun to watch. It inspired me and the stop-motion animation flowed really well. It is easy with stop-motion to skip a step and the whole movie could stop flowing and fall out of place with stop motion, which is what makes it such an art. I feel that with the hand he got around the situation. This sends a message that the hands are a vital point of a human body and that the whole thing wouldn't have been possible without them. I think it was funny when the human genitals entered the movie, it was funny because everyone in the class froze. It was unexpected and that gave it the comedic factor. I really enjoyed the whole thing because it shows dedication. Stop motion take a long time to make, and I suspect that this was hard to make as well since it was very complex for 1989.

Colour Harmony

Image
RGB in adobe colour is easily adjusted and you can create any thing you want colour wise. It is perfect for making any colour palette you want. The fun part is learning about the different colours and making the actual colour for yourself. I found it an experience because the RGB colour scheme has shown me that you can make a lot of other nice colours using all the different types of shades of RGB.

Reflection on postcard process

My reflection on the postcard process is simple. I love what I have created and in hope that the many people who if they ever see it will buy it. But they can't because they are concept at the moment. Although personally if I was visiting Bath and wanted a postcard of high quality I would purchase one of the postcards, and I say that not in a self-promoting way. I really think my postacards are good and maybe one day the get put into production. Althoigh this was purely for fun. Alot of people have said that they are good not just myself, You could ask for anyon'e opinion and they would probably say something ina posititve direction.

Movie - The Chase

In the movie we made, that is and action film including A CIA agent with a USB that has something mysterious on it that is worth £10 million. Then a thief comes along and steals the USB with his incredible parkour skills. This then turns into a chase. I play the hooded kid funnily enough. I like the way we shot this because, it is really good and there are some good quality stuff in there. The Chase isn't really a movie because it is almost 2 minutes long so it is kind of a short in sense. Although the music is engaging, the talking and acting out the conversation was very quick and quiet by Koda Walters who plays Geoff the person who receives the USB. This was easily figured out because I can increase the volume in Adobe Premiere. The chase was fun to film but an experience for all of us. We have are different views but, we worked well as a team and thats important. I think the final video is great and that I did a lot of cutting and adjusting to make it absolutely perfect. I

Park edit

When we filmed in the park the objective was to learn about all the shot sizes. It was really interesting and very informative to see how you can make a film that is good without flow because of the shots needed. I have a different view when I watch films now because of being a director myself. I like that and this could prove handy in further days. We went out and set everything up for the first time with a scrappy piece of paper explains our instructions. None of us had a very good clue as to how we were to do this. The we nominated the positions and i was voted director. Then after that I proceeded to shoot. It was good fun at start then we started to think with a bit more detail. This helped me to focus on the task at hand.  Even though this was our first time we were keen to make it good. Now you are probably wondering about the music. Yes it is for humour but when you think more. It all makes sense. He is lonely and so hence the lonely music. Then comes the famous Randy

Stage of postcards

Image
In the stages of making my postcards, I had started by going out into Bath and taking pictures of the things that I though make Bath stand out, for example the roman Baths and the rugby and also the famous hotel that looks over the waters in the city centre. Secondly, I then took the photos back and chose the correct ones that I thought were the best one to apply. After that I proceeded to carry onto designing my layout and so as you can see, in the image below, that they are all different sizes and so this gave my more time to plan the part that would go in-between. Thirdly, I then carried onto the background after of which I had a think about what I was going to put in-between the cracks because I didn't want to move the sizes of the pictures because those angles show the quality in them. The process of putting the golden tints in took a while so this was probably why it look so great in my opinion. The angles that were chosen on each photo was chosen carefully. My tea

My final products

Image
These are my final postcards: The first one is for teens and this is because it shows a basic style and most importantly - sport. The Bath Rugby badge is eye catching to most teens, and so should assist them and persuade them to buy it. I like the fact that the faded gold background make it stand out like it does, and that the pictures that are in the background are also of high quality. The middle postcard is for kids because the font of 'BATH' is childish writing and so should be used with the vibrant red to stand out and make the postcard look appealing. I don't think this is the best out of the three but thats kind of the point. The picture that inter weaves through the postcard and dills the letters give the postcard more colour and also more of a point. The final one is for adults. This is since, that it is eye catching and that the writing is informative and the information is more mature. Also the font I used appeals especially to adults as a decorati

First week at college

Image
My decision to join bath college after being at Downside school for 5 years was a tough decision. I could leave at first the original idea was to stay and do a levels. They don't offer a media A-level so I couldn't really stay. Although my dream is being followed to one day become a film director, it is an incredibly different lifestyle here . I now take the bus to college, instead of leaving home with my mum every morning in her car. Which for some is a big leap, but I will cope! In fact I like taking the bus, it makes me feel independent instead of relying on my mum all the time. I love the city of Bath, I never get to come into the city since I was at school pretty much 24/7. Which means I get close to spending my bus money everyday from going to the cinema and shake-away all the time. It was a treat for me to come into the city, but now I have access to the bus I can come all the time! And it's beginning to become second nature.

First edit

Image
Today  i made my first edit and it was very interesting to see how real film directors would make their movies. It was very fun as well as interesting. I had a bit of fun to find out what you can do with Adobe Premier. As you can see in the bottom left there is a lot of Sound effect options.

Premiere Set-up

Image
There are 4 stages to making a video in premier. Here are those 4 steps: You'll see 4 sections. In the bottom left is where you should start. You need to go to finder and select all your footage. Once this is done you can then go ahead to drag it up to stage up. 2. mark you footage (cutting). These marking tools look like this: {,}. once you are happy with this you can click the video icon. After you have done this numerous times from making your video you can move to stage 3 3&4. This is combined with stage 4 because you can't use one without the other.

Design brief

Image
1. Always start the design brief with “I am going to design and make .....”.  This is followed by a general description of the type of device you feel will  answer the design problem. 2. Do not be too specific. The brief should be a general description that allows you  flexibility regarding the type of product you intend to make.   3.  Do not be specific about materials. It may be wise to avoid stating the exact materials  it will be manufactured from (eg. pine, steel, etc...). Instead describe the materials to be  used as strong, tough, flexible, natural, recycled, water-proof or similar general descriptions.   4. Mention points such as; safety, general size, what it will do (it’s functions), general properties  of the materials needed, who it is for (eg children), basic cost of manufacture or a lower and  upper cost limits and other points you feel are important. A design brief is a written explanation, given to a designer outlining the aims like objectives a

The Importance of Understanding an Audience

Image
It is crucial for a designer to consider an audience because they can change how it looks to better meet the individual needs of the buyer. For example, for kids i chose a bright red background that stands out. This is because kids enjoy loud colours and are attracted to more exciting designs. I intend to create some Bath postcard designs for male teens. Some of the things I will have to consider include: Location: Skatepark (good dynamic location), apple store (appealing, but may have issues with copyright), The baths. Colours: Red/blue/Deep purple Layout: complex design (four images); simple design,  Font: Avenir next condensed,  What is my target audience? This is one of the best edits I've probably ever done. The symmetry is outstanding because of the artistic angle I took it at. The colours are appealing to male teens because of the saturation.

Stages of film production

Timeline Financing Need to get funds from film company. The script may not even be finished. It's the idea that you pitch. Then you finish the script and the they get it locked. It can be adjusted but thats the actors choice, the story is the thing that is locked. Then you find your actors and bring them in..  after, you find your locations and angles to shoot. Schedule As I said at the end of the last paragraph you find your angles to shoot, and find the time to do it in (night, noon, day, etc). Not just the actors but the props, and crew. It is important that you time your schedule because of the shot you want, and the time you will have to shoot it at etc. Budget The key thing with budget and financing is how you spend it because you need to be 100% sure about what you are buying and the way you are buying it. For example you need to buy it legally and not from like a street dealer or something. Shooting Shooting is key to the making of any film. T

BANANAS

'BANANAS' In this film that I shot with a team of 5 (including actors) we made a short film for the soul purpose of understanding the 180 degree rule. It was interesting to use Adobe Premiere on myself because it gave me that extra push to make my film the best. I had passion because I feel that having my face in their had a massive impact on the way I influenced the the progress on my editing. I really enjoyed the making of the film but I also enjoyed the acting. It was fun to make because i was with my friends and that made it a fun unscripted experience for future days where we are going to make an actual movie! It was quite nice because following a script, and that is easy. It was great because it made me think so it gave it more of an original feel which is nice because they were real reactions as a pose to fake acting. The real best part of the making of the film was that anything can happen so, what we made for the fact that they were real reactions was in a since
